Udaya Hewawasam is a freelance art conservator based in Colombo with 30 + years of experience in the field of conservation/restoration on heritage materials and contemporary works of art in public and private collections in Sri Lanka, Italy, France, Portugal, India and Pakistan.
Obtained specialized trainings in active and preventive conservation from ICCROM (The International center for study preservation and restoration of cultural property in Rome) in 1991, 1993, 2009, & 2015. Conservation course at Postgraduate Institute of Archaeology in 1986, uncompleted Bachelor of Science at the Open University of Colombo (1988-1993) and studied of paintings and drawings under late Mr. Stanley Abeysinghe (1988-89) became the main education frame in his career.
He is a visiting lecturer to the department of history and art Theory at University of Visual and Performing Arts since 2009 to gallery studies course unit and was a visiting instructor to the conservation course at the Postgraduate Institute of Archeology, University of Kelaniya in 1987, 1990 & 1992.
He has published several research works on active and preventive conservation and conduct public awareness program of conservation to general public through video documentaries, seminars and new-paper articles. He has curated few exhibitions of art and social issues.
Udaya is the Chief Conservator at ConsArt Conservation Studio, since 2006.
