Waruna Alahakoon is a national level administrator, facilitator and point of contact in Drama and Theatre education in government school system of Sri Lanka. He is a Deputy Director of Education (Drama and Theatre / Aesthetics) at the Ministry of Education. After completing his Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine Arts in 1999 at the University of Kelaniya, Waruna enrolled into the government service as a school teacher for Drama and Theatre, and subsequently appointed to the Sri Lanka Education Administrative Service (SLEAS). Being a long served panel member of the Drama Panel of the Arts Council, Waruna has contributed as an adjudicator in state drama, short drama, literary, television and children’s theatre festivals by representing the Arts Council for consecutive years. He also works as a visiting lecturer for several Universities, and a resource person in the National Institute of Education and the Provincial Departments of Education and Zonal Education offices, sharing his scope of knowledge about the fundamentals of Music application in Theatre Arts and theatre education related issues.
